FALLE NIOKE & GHOST CULTURE LEYWOLE

Falle Nioke & Ghost Culture reunite for a brand new EP titled Badiare, following the success of their Youkounkoun EP which was released on the 10th July 2020. Now, they share 'Leywole', the EP's lead single. 'Leywole' literally means 'whatever' in Coniagui, one of the many languages spoken by Falle Nioke. "I was inspired just by watching men and women in the street, in particular an interaction between a strong woman rejecting the approach from a bold man," he explains. "How can this man have the audacity to talk to me?!" she says and asks him questions like 'and you are the son of who?!'". Opening the song is a collection of low-pitched vocals that blow like an enchanted horn. The thumb piano invites the rhythm and tempo, whilst synths and synthetic drums bring a dark and dancey motion. Previously, Falle Nioke has exclusively sung in languages ranging from French, English, Susu, Fulani, Malinke & Coniagui, but this time his words are performed in a rap-like manner, with more rhythm than melody. Badiare is set for release on 5th November via PRAH Recordings and we can't wait to get our ears on it. -Ellie Rose-Davies
